Best Pizzas of the Steppe: Astana’s Top Pizzerias

Pizza is love; pizza is life. Though some may think that I should add the restaurants below to my “occidental restaurants in Astana” article, I beg to differ. I spent way too much time trying so many different pizzerias in town that they simply deserve a royal treatment, in the form of getting a separate article for their own. Below you can find out where to find some of the best pizza pies in town, though as is often case, what is truly “the best” can depend on your favourite style of pizza, or where you hail from.

Perchini – https://go.2gis.com/pnah6t

This is a simple, yet certainly not a shabby place to dine in. It has a huge menu, and my friends seemed to have enjoyed what they had. I just had a four-cheese pizza, and to my surprise it came with a tomato sauce rather than the more common cream one for that kind of pizza here. This was a much welcome change, as it made the whole pie lighter. It was also very crispy, and though I prefer fluffy crusts, the thinness did add to the crisp which was quite enjoyable. It was relatively cheap at around 7 USD, and for normal people, it can probably satisfy two people. Their spicy olive oil certainly needs some more work, but the service was decent, and the place in general is well worth a visit.

Roni Pizza Napoletana – https://go.2gis.com/c8gll

This place offers a few unique varieties of pizzas, which is what caught my attention. They have a Thai pizza with a spicy sauce and some exotic veggies as toppings, as well as a sweet pizza with chocolate and the like, though that one is becoming more common these days. I went for a simple pizza with sardines, and did taste amazing. The problem is, despite its cheapness, the size of the pizza here is abysmal. It is not so little that you “need” two pizzas to be full, but it is not big enough that you leave the table satisfied. Furthermore, they seem to have changed their waiters. The next time I visited them, I was not served my pizza for almost 40 minutes, despite latecomers already receiving their orders and then some to bring back home with them. I want to assume it was an honest mistake but honestly nothing explains waiting for almost an hour for a pizza that is known for being prepared very quickly. I for one will not be giving them any further chances, as the city is home to much better pizzerias, but for their more special pizzas alone, you can surely risk a visit to them.

Focaccia – https://go.2gis.com/17pec

Focaccia is like a small piece of Italy, filled with Russians making pizza, teleported to the middle of the steppe. They have an amazing pizza, though it could be cooked a bit more from time to time. The selection here is some of the biggest too, so rest assured, you will find your favourite ingredients here. I adored their Italian tuna pizza, which, despite having a cream-based sauce, was quite light and thus enjoyable. They also serve a few other nifty items that are difficult to find elsewhere, like their own take on panzerotti, and a Kazakh-Italian fusion attempt with baursak filled with cheese and tomatoes. Certainly an interesting place to visit.

La Mia Piazza – https://go.2gis.com/tlxm0

If you were to ask me where you can get the best pizza in town, I would have to say La Mia Piazza. I simply cannot get over the fluffy inside and crispy outside of their crust, and their dough tastes so good that even without any topping it would be a joy to eat their “pizzas.” Their truffle white sauce pizza is to die for, though it is expensive being a bit over 12 USD, and yes, that is pretty expensive for this city’s standards my dear Western readers. It is certainly a more upscale establishment, where everyone smiles a bit more and the service is a bit better, so the price is fair in my opinion. It does help that they serve the best pizza in town.

Pizzeria Pastabar – https://go.2gis.com/956ig

Pizza is delivery food for most people out there, which seems to be the case here in Astana as well. Well, not for me, because given how cold this town is, and how some couriers still use bikes or good old legs to get your meal to you, chances are it will always be pretty cold by the time it reaches your door. That was the case with me, practically always. With that being said, even cold pizza can taste good, and though it has seen better days, the one I ordered from Pizzeria Pastabar proves just that by tasting quite good! Sure, it would have been far better as it came off the oven, but hey, it did come to my door, which is a huge plus.

Del Papa – https://go.2gis.com/hh7v0a

Another delivery adventure of mine involved Del Papa, one of the better-known brands here. They sure did a good job with the delivery; it was even sort of warm when it arrived, and it did not take too much time. Most importantly, their tomato sauce was good, so good that even cold it was quite fine. I should probably visit their place properly and enjoy their food freshly made there one day.
